Sesame crusted tofu (Taken with Instagram)
(Adapted from Martha Stewart’s Crispy Sesame Tofu)
Ingredients:
1 package extra firm tofu
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1 T. toasted sesame oil
salt and pepper to taste
3 T. reduced sodium soy sauce
2 green onions, sliced
Directions:
1. Drain water out of tofu. Slice block of tofu lengthwise into four equal pieces and then down the middle to make 8 small blocks. Arrange blocks on a plate lined with 2 layers of paper towels and place two more layers of paper towels on top. Place a small sheet pan on top of the tofu and weigh it down with cans of food. Let tofu drain for 5 minutes.
2. Spread sesame seeds onto a plate and press both sides of each tofu square into the seeds. In a large nonstick skillet, heat the toasted sesame oil over medium. Saute the tofu on one side until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Flip the tofu, season with salt and pepper, and saute the other side for 5 more minutes.
3. Pour in the soy sauce. (Caution: This will bubble up and splatter! You’ve been forewarned.) Continue cooking and turning until the tofu has absorbed all the soy sauce, about 1 minute.
4. Move the tofu to a platter and garnish with green onions.
